Hephaestus Rocks!

Are you looking for something totally fun and entertaining to do in Chicago? Does it make you happy to see your kids totally on the edges of their seats in anticipation? Do you like half naked chicks to drop down from the ceiling and flip around like crazy right above your head? Well, then, do I have just the thing for you! Recently, I was contacted by the good folks from the Looking Glass Theatre Company about bringing my family to attend one of their productions at the Goodman Theatre downtown. It’s called Hephaestus and is billed as a “Greek Mythology Circus Tale.” It claims to be a mix between “Stomp” and “Cirque de Soleil,” and it most certainly did NOT disappoint!

These actors were un-freaking-believably good acrobats! I mean, we’re talking upper body strength that makes the Incredible Hulk look like a damn pussbag. And the yoga talents of the chick who played Aphrodite? HOLY HUMAN PRETZEL! After watching her stick her whole head through her legs while doing a backbend, I swear she must be the spawn of Gumby, dammit.  The stunts were just absolutely non-stop and had the four of us anxiously waiting to see what on earth they were gonna try to do next.  It also didn’t hurt that the “Silverguys” were banging some serious booty-shaking beats on an assortment of drums.  I mean, who doesn’t wanna see a bunch of incredibly HAWT guys built like brick shithouses painted from head to toe in silver??!!  The climax of the show was an intense nail-biting formation of a 7-person pyramid atop a teensy weensy high wire.  There was not one mouth in the entire audience that wasn’t gaping open at the sight of this.  It was incredible!  Here’s a little blip of just some of the amazing things we witnessed:

My daughter loved it so much that she held her pee throughout the entire show so as not to miss even a single moment.  And if you know anything about the girl’s bladder, you’d understand just how big of a deal this really was — I’m tellin’ you, the kid was totally and completely mesmerized.  She told me afterwards that she “never ever wanted it to end.”  We were lucky enough to chat with some of the actors after the show and even got a couple of them to pose for a pic with the kids:

I highly highly recommend you go get your freak on if you’re in the Chi and looking for something to absolutely blow your mind.  “Hephaestus” is action-packed fun, whether you’re 7 years old or 67 years old (did I mention the half-naked dangling chicks?)  It’s definitely one circus train that you do not wanna miss!

  1. Thanks for the idea!! We’ve been looking for new things to do in Chicago. Kids are tired of the same old thing.

    • You will NOT be disappointed! It’s so much fun & highly entertaining! Let me know what you think if you end up checking it out! 🙂

  2. Oh, WOW! I’m so incredibly jealous. It looks **amazing**! I need to find things like that going on here in Reno!

    • It was sooooo amazing! If it ever comes to a town near you, you should totally go see it! Well worth it! 🙂

  3. Sounds like a blast!

Hell, I’d go to the opera if there were half-naked dangling chicks there. Other than the big fat chick in the viking helmet, of course.

    • Haha! Yeah, acrobatic hot chicks would certainly spice up an opera, wouldn’t they?! 😉

  4. I’ve known Hephaestus as a Greek God. Thanks for the information. 🙂

    • Yes, it’s all about his story & how Hera threw him off Mt. Olympus! It’s very cool how they worked the storyline in with all the acrobatics & stunts. Definitely worth seeing!
