Put Some Meat on Those Jeans!

Now that Spring is finally inching its way (albeit very slowly) toward us, it is time once again to restock the kids’ closets.  As we were hibernating this winter, my twins have outgrown their pants, shirts, shoes, jackets, and pj’s. (Must be nice to get a whole new wardrobe every season!)  As I was shopping for new jeans for them, I was reminded once again of how unbelievably ridiculous it is to actually sell “skinny jeans” for little girls. That is so wrong on so many levels. It’s bad enough that we have self-complex-inducing jeans for adults, but for children?  What kind of message are we trying to send here? Calling all five-year-old runway models?! Anyone who knows anything about the majority of little girls under the age of six knows that their bellies, hips, and legs generally qualify as anything but “skinny”. The fact that these jeans come with an adjustable waistband just makes it even more ludicrous.  Who cares if the legs are so skin-tight that she can’t walk or sit down?  She’ll have extra room in the waist!  I am all for trendy kids’ clothing to a certain extent.  However, I do not need my daughter to feel like she needs to cut back on the pb&j sandwiches in order to look like she just stepped out of a junior Vogue magazine!
